only back to blogging a short while and already i'm perfecting the falling off the face of the earth. solid.
of late, the boy and i have been tied up with some fun (but totally overwhelming) developments on the horizon*, so i'm flakier than ever right now. all will be revealed in time, but for the moment -- have some distraction. look! it's pretty yarn! in a pretty sweater!
i was waiting to post this sweater until i had pictures where my eyes weren't all squinty and closed from the light, but at the rate i'm going that may never happen.
so, squinty face and all, i give you flicca:
pattern by anna bell, yarn by beaverslide, knitting by heather.
full details on ravelry here. i absolutely love this sweater. i've been wearing the crap out of it lately - dressed up and down - and it's cozy, and perfect. anything that has the comfort level of a bathrobe, but looks like real clothing is a major bonus in my book too. yay flicca.
* And no, valentina, i am not knocked up.
perfect sunday. the whole house slept in soundly, until the boy finally woke up and from the other room i heard "SNOW!" it took only seconds before linus and i were running around the back yard like mad things.

the snow more or less put an end to leaving the house for anything other than a long walk to collect groceriers from all of my favorite spots around the neighborhood. after that, i settled in for a long afternoon in the kitchen. i've been reading barbara kingsolver's book, animal, vegetable, miracle, lately and it has me in the mind to settle in and cook. in theory, i am a big fan of locavore principles, and dislike the thought of factory farming, be it of meats or vegetables. but as so often happens, principles easily fall by the wayside when it's late and dark and i'm tired and hungry after a long day at work, with nothing in the house and a mediocre bodega the only thing between the subway and my front door. so sunday, i laid in stock and commenced a massive afternoon of cooking that will keep me well fed this week and beyond.
i first mixed up a batch of pizza dough. it freezes beautifully, so one afternoon of mixing can earn you 8-10 pizzas in the future. while that proofed, i fed my urge for a solid science experiment, and cooked up some homemade ricotta cheese. so fast, so easy, and so making me feel like a rock star.

with the beginnings of the jamie harmon sweater from rhinebeck close at hand (mmm, merino/angora) to fill in the gaps while waiting for things to brown, boil, etc., i managed to knock out a killer torta de riso e, um, italian for kale (thanks to sarah for that recipe!), a kale-laden lasagne with homemade ricotta, and a beautiful roast chicken. other than the wine, rice and spices, everything either came from the famers' market or made around the corner at our local italian deli (their fresh pasta and mozzarella are amazing).
farm fresh free range chicken with local apples, carrots, and potatoes? i had seconds.
